As well as enriching their understanding of history, the children were able to use their drama and role playing skills. From dressing up as a Victorian to using an ink pen and copy book, the trip was a perfect period piece and allowed Victorian life to come alive. The day consisted of experiences for the children. The children paid ‘school pennies’ for the coal and lamp oil. Girls were taught domestic or sewing skills in anticipation for the requirements for entry to domestic service. While the boys would master the skill of drawing and craftwork.
