At St. Katharine’s we offer 2 residential trips, the first in Y4 to the Braeside Outdoor Education centre in Devizes and another in Y6 to the ‘Red Ridge Outdoor Education Centre’, five miles from the small village of Cefn Coch in Mid Wales.
Our Year 4 children have two nights away from home at Braeside and spend their time involved in outdoor learning planned for by the class teacher in collaboration with the team at Braeside. This includes opportunities to problem solve in groups and use the challenging climbing equipment that they have on site. Visit the Braeside website if you would like to find out more about the work they do with children.
Year 6 children currently spend a week at the Red Ridge centre in mid Wales during the final term of their time at St. Katharine’s.
It offers the children a fantastic opportunity to experience activities that they otherwise might not and develop a deeper understanding of their strengths and develop new skills and abilities.
The activities that children take part in, whilst varying from year to year, will include: caving (both real and artificial), Canadian canoeing along a stretch of river or canal, climbing (both on a practice wall and in a quarry, kayaking and long boarding on an manmade lake, orienteering, archery, mapping whilst taking part in a long 5 mile hike as well as multiple team building activities on the equipment at the centre. Visit the Red Ridge website if you would like to find out more about the work they do with children.
