Oak class are currently studying Victorian School Life. On Monday 4th March the whole class visited Sevington Victorian school. As well as enriching their understanding of history, the children were able to use their drama and role playing skills. From dressing up as a Victorian to using an ink pen and copy book, the trip was a perfect period piece and allowed Victorian life to come alive. The children paid ‘school pennies’ for the coal and lamp oil. Girls were taught domestic or sewing skills in anticipation for the requirements for entry to domestic service. While the boys would master the skill of drawing and craftwork. Sevington school is a perfectly preserved time capsule that enabled the children to get as close as possible to life for young children during the Victorian era.
