Today, Oak Class had a fantastic visit from the Crofton Beam Engines team, who taught us all about the fascinating history of canals. They explained how canals were once a vital part of transporting goods across the country and how the amazing technology behind steam engines helped make it all possible. The children were captivated by the stories of the past, especially about the incredible beam engines that powered the locks and helped boats navigate through the waterways.
After the talk, the children took part in a hands-on activity where they created their own canals. They worked together in groups to design small models of canals using trays, water, and materials to represent boats and locks.
A great deal of fun was had!
