The children in Hazel class have had a wonderfully busy day exploring the arboretum. In the morning, they played games to learn about why some seed do and don’t grow, then they went on a walk across a wibbly wobble bridge, through the bamboo forest, up the zig-zag hill to the ponds, where they spent some time pond dipping, finding creature such as newts and dragonfly larvae.
After lunch, it was time for a Minibeast hunt! The children had great fun looking through bark, leaves and under logs. We found centipedes, milliepedes, slugs, ants, worms, woodlice and many more. To end the day, we explored the herb garden, where we got to pick some small leaves from the herb plants to take home on a sticky card caterpillar.
It was a wonderful day out and a perfect first trip for Hazel Class!
